Casual & Quiet Weekends

Monday, November 28, 2016

You guys, we honestly had the most wonderful weekend.  For the first time in I don't know how long, we had nothing to do. Nothing.to.do.  Of course, we did have errands to run and some work to get done around the house, but we didn't have a pressing agenda and it was so lovely!

We enjoyed some great temps this weekend as well.  Light jackets, or heavy sweaters with a scarf is all we needed to run errands.  I'm pretty much most comfortable in jeans, as you can probably tell from all of my #ootds, but what can I say?!  Just love my denim.  I also love a good hat for those days when you just don't feel like doing your hair (ha! truth!) or when you want to add a touch of personality to an outfit.

Though I'm slightly sad that the weekend is over, I am excited to share that I have some fantastic posts lined up for the next week and a bit, so be sure to check back!

A Cinnamon Roll A Day

Sunday, November 27, 2016

Well okay, maybe not, but wouldn't that be nice?!

I've posted about our love for cinnamon rolls before, but this weekend, I shared a photo on Instagram and a few people asked for the recipe.  I've recently tried a new recipe and love it, so here you go!  This is the recipe that I've been using lately and I tell ya that it's pretty hard to resist the urge to have more than one cinnamon roll at a time!  I like to rub butter onto the bottom of the pan, then I sprinkle some brown sugar and top that with a little corn syrup for extra stickiness before setting the rolls into the pan to rise & bake.

If you've ever thought of making cinnamon rolls, but feared that they are too difficult, I assure you that they are much easier to make than you may think!  I definitely urge you to give this recipe a try!

Enjoy!

Eve Cork - A Modern Handbag With A Classic Touch

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

I was recently introduced to one of the loveliest companies, Eve.  Eve is a company that prides itself in creating a line of eco-friendly cork handbags as well as fashion accessories such as phone cases.  Their accessories are ethically made in Portugal and sustainability is a large part of who they are and what they stand for.

Each piece in their incredible collection is handmade with care and has been designed for the modern lifestyle but are most certainly timeless.  After scrolling through their handbag section, the Cappa tote caught my eye time and time again. I love the rounded top, it's size (I'm not known for my ability to travel lightly!) and the fact that it has both handles as well as a strap (hello multifunctional piece!).  The light coloured cork with contrasting trim is the perfect pairing.

This is the first time that I had ever seen a handbag made of cork!  I was so surprised by how lightweight the purse was and how beautiful it's unique look is!

Eve isn't only about creating gorgeous pieces, they are also about putting the environment first, not only by how they harvest their cork, but also in how they run their business.

It's inspiring to read about wonderful companies, such as this one, and it's an honour to have been able to see and use one of the Eve handbags firsthand.  I have to be honest, the Itza Satchel also had me stopping in my tracks, as did the Cappa clutch!

Hop on over to the Eve site to see their stunning collection and to see the wide array of colours that they have in store!  From vibrant oranges (beautifully died to colour using natural vegetable dyes) to matte blacks, there's something for everyone!

Annnnnd, I'll let you in on a little secret!  Eve is prepping for a massive Black Friday sale!  Ready for this?!  They are offering 40% off sitewide!  I know!  You can view their entire collection here.

Cheers,

Eve kindly provided me with the Cappa tote (my choice) all opinions are however my own and have not been influenced.

A Sweet Every Day Cape & Versatile Saddle Purse

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

cape (c/o), shoes (old), jeans (c/o), turtle neck (Gap Factory), purse (c/o), watch

I've been secretly wanting to add a cape to my closet for some time now....like a few years!  I'm quickly becoming a huge fan of a wardrobe that truly expresses my style and so I decided that it was long overdue that I began my search for the perfect cape!

Enter this beauty from Talbots.  Honestly, it completely fits the bill!  I'm surprised by how warm it is too, I just assumed that because the sleeves were open that it would allow a constant draft, but I was pleasantly  surprised to learn that that wasn't the case!  I'm sure that I can wear it much longer than I originally thought I could.  I've paired it with heels, but I'm quite positive that it would look fantastic with a pair of runners, flats and especially love that the faux-fur collar is removable.

The saddle purse from Indigo is the perfect finishing touch to the outfit.  It's available in an array of colours and has an adjustable strap, which means you can wear it on your shoulder, or cross body.  It can easily be dressed up or down and can most certainly go from day to night.  Love multifunctional pieces!

The CANVAS Christmas Collection - Decorating With Gold For The Holidays

Saturday, November 19, 2016

It feels like it was forever ago that I was heading to Toronto to work with the incredible team at Canadian Tire and every day since, I've been wanting to tell you all about it!  Well, today's the day!  I'm so incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to work with this stunning holiday collection, you guys, you are going to looooove it!

Say hello to the CANVAS Christmas Collection!  More specifically, all things gold!

Gold has come back in a big way in the past couple of years, and this year's CANVAS Christmas collection includes the most breathtaking gold pieces!  Honestly, if you're looking for new ornaments, decor or accessories, check this page out!  I've personally visited our store five times in the past two weeks (I'm quite confident that the sales associates think I'm insane, that's aok because our home is officially decked for the holidays! falalalala)

We absolutely love spending time decorating the tree.   We turn on the holiday tunes, throw on a couple of Santa hats and get to work!  Once all of the decorations are up, we take a seat on the ground, next to the tree and enjoy a pizza dinner.  I can't remember when or why we started this tradition, but it stuck and we look forward to it every year!

Gold really allows you to add an extra bit of sparkle and warmth to your decor during the holidays.  It pairs beautifully with so many colours, so it's a great option.  It's especially beautiful when decorating the dining room for Christmas dinner!  That was precisely my vision for this stunning colour!  You can view my inspiration for this space right here on Pinterest!

I so very much look forward to the big Christmas dinner each and every year.  It's a tradition in many households and a time that we can usually guarantee that the family will all be together.  A fresh garland topped with a glittery gold-leaf garland and stunning ornaments replaces a traditional table runner (and smells ah-mazing!).  Tip! I like to attach some of the decorations to the garland so that everything can be removed relatively easily when it comes time to make room for the delicious eats!

Consider swapping out candles for a pair of finials as the centre piece!  Welcome your dinner guests to their seats with antique inspired key ornaments!  To do this, weave a ribbon through the top of the ornament and write their name on a piece of cardstock.  It's a beautiful & simple way to decorate each place setting and it's also a keepsake for them to take home.  You can see videos of my holiday DIYs and tips right here!

The CANVAS Christmas Collection truly makes it easy for you to create your very own festive look!  With six colour collections, all of which can be mixed and matched,  from traditional to modern pieces, we have no doubt that your home is going to look amazing!

Now you know that we want to see how you decorate with the CANVAS Christmas Collection!  Use the hashtag #MyCANVASstyle so that we can all see and be inspired!

Happy Holidays!

Hey Friday!

What an insanely busy week this was!  This weekend will be just as crazy, but it's a good busy so I'm most definitely not complaining!  I'm secretly hoping to have a bit of time to do this this weekend:

I just started to read this month's #IndigoBookClub pick, "The Best Kind of People".  Have you read it?

We are so excited to be heading to downtown Toronto to watch the Santa Claus Parade for the very first time!  Hoping that we will be able to stay warm as the temps are supposed to be a little cool!  Are you going?

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Pantene Beautiful Lengths - National Donate Your Hair Day & A Giveaway ***GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED****

Wednesday, November 9, 2016

Thank you to everyone who entered this wonderful giveaway.  Your comments and support were so very much appreciated!  The winner of the prize pack is Amy!  Congrats!

This Saturday, November 12th, Pantene will be celebrating National Donate Your Hair Day!  This annual day of giving is meant to encourage Canadians to cut and donate their hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Hair donations will then be used to make real-hair wigs for women battling cancer.  Pantene has donated over 50,000 wigs so far to the Canadian Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society's wig banks!  Providing a ray of sunshine to recipients during what must be one of the most difficult times in their lives.

2015 donor

Every year, over 96,000 women (according to the Canadian Cancer Society) are diagnosed with cancer in Canada and as a result, many of these women undergo treatment which often times results in them losing their hair.  With over 800,000 ponytails collected across North American to-date, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program hopes that even more people will support the cause by donating their hair this Saturday, November 12th!

If you're in the GTA area, and wish to visit the Bang Salon at 859 Danforth Avenue in Toronto between 9am - 4pm to donate your hair, please send an email to PBLCanada@gmail.com (appointments are limited).  The entire salon will be full of women and men who are also donating their locks!  It's incredible to know how just 8" of hair length can make a huge difference in the life of someone who is battling cancer. (there are some donation requirements and donations can be made year round, this event is also about raising awareness)

Pantene also knows that not everyone is able to donate their hair and that is why they started The Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund as well as the  #Donate2Create program.  This allows those who are unable to donate their hair, to instead make a monetary donation.  Monetary donations are accepted here.

2015 donor

The stories are truly incredible, from hearing why people have chosen to donate, to the stories from those who have been recipients.  Reading about donors who have made donations year after year, it's touching, it's eye opening and it's an absolutely wonderful cause.  Wig recipients have said that they feel like themselves again, and that is amazing to hear!

You can use the #BeautifulLengths & #Donate2Create hashtags on Instagram and Twitter to show your participation!

Pantene wants to celebrate their #BeautifulLengths program by giving away a Pantene Prize Pack to one lucky reader, to help them grow beautiful long locks, which may one day be donated to this incredible program.  To enter, please follow the instructions below.  Giveaway is open to Canadian Residents and closes Tuesday, November 15th at 11:59pm EST.  Good luck!
