It's Friiiiiday!

As you know, I have a love for vintage and thrifted pieces!  I'm over at Domino.com sharing a few tips on how to decorate with them!  Click the link below the pic to see the post!

Everything you need to know when it comes to incorporating vintage pieces and thrift store finds into your home decor.

In other news, Kiddo 1's room is coming along nicely.  I recently made it to IKEA and picked up the majority of the pieces that we needed for his room.  The shelves are in place (there is one on either side of his desk).  We swapped out the glass shelves for wooden ones and stained them espresso.  In this pic you can see his very first baseball glove, which we will place in the display case.  Oh my heart!  New lamp and the mirror will replace the posters.  Exciting!

With that, I'm so looking forward to the weekend.  I turned my alarm clock off and accidentally slept an extra 30 mins not once but twice this week!  Oy.

Here's this week's links:
Have a fabulous weekend!

Well That Caught My Eye...

Friday, May 22, 2015

We have an especially short week this week with the May long weekend that just passed and a PA day today.  I'm not complaining, but I do know that next week is going to be painful when we find ourselves back to a regular schedule!

Baseball season has officially started and you guys, I don't know who is more excited, the kids or hubs and I!  We all love baseball and if there is one sport that I hope the kids play for years to come, it's most definitely baseball!

As we head into the weekend, here are a few things that caught my eye this week:

Feature: The DX Design Auction + A Giveaway! ***CLOSED***

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

This giveaway is now closed

Hey, friends!

Today, I'm super excited to share an amazing auction that is happening next week in Toronto!

It's all happening at the Design Exchange (DX)!  If you aren't familiar with the DX here's a little info:  As a not-for-profit registered charity that focuses on promoting the experience of design and as the only museum in Canada that is dedicated exclusively "to the pursuit of design excellence and preservation of design heritage", the DX is really and truly an amazing organization.

They focus on teaching how design is an important part of our every day life, from fashion, to graphics, to furniture, to architecture and they have worked along side some huge and influential names such as Pharrell Williams.  They've even welcomed Jeanne Beker as one of their guest curators!

On May 29th, the DX will be holding it's DX Design Auction.  The auction is a live and silent auction that includes some stunning furnishings and accessories for the home.  I've had a chance to view some of the items that will be included in the auction and have rounded up my favourites for you!

So good, right?!  Here's why I love these pieces:

1- If you've been following me here for a while, you know that I have an absolute love for plants.  The idea of owning this planter has my head spinning (in a good way).  Gorgeous detail and absolute uniqueness (you won't believe what it's made of, click here to find out), the Magenta Diamonds Planter (Carl & Rose) is simply fabulous.

2- The simple yet elegant lines of the Wishbone Chair by Hans J. Wegner (Bulthaup Toronto), have had me wanting to add one (or six) to our home for a while now.  I'd love to place one in our future workspace in the kitchen and the colour of this one would breathe life into any space.

3- The Saarinen Side Table by Eero Saarinen (Knoll) would work well in any space.  This is one table that you can easily mix with various styles.  It's.perfect.

4- Rugs are such a great way to ground, add colour and are a great to add personality to a space.  They are truly art for your floors.  I absolutely adore the geometric print and colour of this Madeline Weinrib rug (Y&Co).

5- Okay, every single space can use a conversation piece.  You guys, this is it!  A stunning cabinet with absolutely perfect detail.  You need this Altdeutsche Armoire (Moooi).  That is all.

6- Every room needs great lighting and it's a bonus if your lighthing can pose as art itself.  I love the mix of wood and white on this Chand Lamp by Tahir Mahmood (Caviar 20), not to mention the beautiful curves and the linen shade.  It would truly work with a number of styles.

7- Do you love to dance?  Kitchen dance parties are one of our favourite things to do.  I have music within arms reach at all times and I've had my eye on the Tivoli Bluetooth Radio (Lenbrook) for as long as I can remember.

Now for the fun part!  I am giving away one general admission ticket to the live auction which is on May 29th from 7-10pm at the Design Exchange.  To enter, head on over to the auction preview page and tell me what your favourite item is by leaving a comment below!  The giveaway will close on Wednesday, May 27th at 12pm EST.

You can find out more about the DX here.  They also offer PA Day workshops, school tours and community outreach programs.  There truly is a lot to read and learn!  Be sure to check out their site.

Cheers and good luck!

Well That Caught My Eye...

Friday, May 15, 2015

Hey friends!

So excited that we are heading into our first long weekend of the year!  It also just happens to be our anniversary weekend (12 years!).  Here are a few things that caught my eye this week:

I'm SO excited to share that the Poppy Barley team will be back in the Toronto area for a fabulous pop up event!  I'm beyond thrilled with my Foxhunt boots and I'm positive that their new collection will be a huge hit!  Be sure to book your fitting appointment and to stop by to see it all!  It's super exciting because the team will be bringing the full product line with them (typically you can see a small selection of sample product if you live in the Toronto area).  Find out more about the event here.

A few other things that caught my eye this week:

And lastly, our basement makeover is coming along nicely!  We are almost done and I can't wait to share more pics of it with you!  Here's a sneak peek:

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

"Pinning" the Old Fashioned Way

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

I have to admit that I love Pinterest just as much as the next person (my For The Home board alone has over 3k pins!), but I still have a complete love for the good ol' bulletin board.

I have one in my workspace and it's probably one of my favourite elements in the little nook of mine.  It's ever changing but typically it's full of inspiring words, gorgeous spaces from magazines, crafts made by the kids, colour palettes that I'm particularly fond of and projects that I'm working on (look closely and you'll see a sneak peek of my plans for the basement makeover & kiddo 1's room).

It's a standard cork board (it was hubs' when he lived at home) that I gave a quick update to by painting the frame in a high gloss white paint.  I added a decorative wooden ornament that I picked up from Home Depot and once again, sprayed in a high gloss white paint, above the bulletin board for a little extra detail.

How about you?  Do you still have a bulletin board aka inspiration board that you use?

Cheers,

Our Spring Garden

Monday, May 11, 2015

I absolutely love this time of year not only because of the warmer temps and the fact that we can enjoy the outdoors without freezing, but because I love watching our gardens come back to life.  I love gardening and I love walking around our yard with a cup of coffee (or glass of wine in the evening) in hand to check in on each plant.  Truly one of my favourite things to do.

I have a few favourite plants, and each year, I am thrilled to see them spring back to life.   Hydrangeas, salvia, astilbe, irises, weigela, peonies and weeping trees are among my favourites.

Grasses of all sorts, evergreens and phlox are high on my list of favourites as well.  It's wonderful watching everything grow and to see the yard filled with texture and colour again!

I love to place wave petunias in our planters which are at the front of the house and on our back deck.

Last year, we planted a weeping jade crabapple for a special reason.  Our wedding rehearsal party was held in hub's parents' backyard.  Their weeping jade crabapple was in full bloom for the party and it was just lovely!  Every time we see it bloom, it reminds us of our wedding, so we decided to plant one in our own yard and sure enough, it's getting set to bloom right on time!

I will have to do a follow up post with pictures of the plants in full bloom!

Do you love to garden?  What are your favourite plants/flowers?

Cheers,
