**Giveaway is now closed*** The Amanda Forrest Collection for The FAT Paint Company + A Giveaway!

Thursday, January 28, 2016

There's no denying the fact that chalk paint is a popular favourite amongst DIYers.  Last September, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the co-founder of The FAT Paint Company, Victoria.  Based in BC, Victoria and her brother, Bradford, have created a fabulous line of chalk-style paint.  Would you believe that the original lab was Victoria's kitchen and that they used her kitchenaid mixer to whip up batches of paint?!  True story.

Fast forward four exciting and successful years later.  They are now working in a 2400 sq foot space and this week TFPC is celebrating the launch of their latest paint collection!

I'm super excited to share the news that The FAT Paint Company has collaborated with the unbelievably talented designer, Amanda Forrest.  Together, they have created an exclusive palette of bold and inspiring colours.  From a stunning pink, to a refreshing blue, to your go-to neutrals.  The six colours in this collection have you covered for your next project!

With 15 years of experience in the design world, Amanda Forrest brings her knowledge of what it is that creatives are looking for, the proof is in her Instagram account.  The colours that she created are reflection of her outgoing and energetic personality.

I was able to try a couple of colours from the new line.  This was the first time that I had ever used chalk paint and I have to be honest, I'm impressed.  It's certainly different than your "regular" paints.  I was amazed by the control you have, how smoothly it goes on (it does dry with a chalk like finish), and how great the colours are.  TFPC isn't lying when they say that they wanted to go bold with this colour palette!

I used Orangeapalooza on a frame in kiddo 1's bedroom.  I didn't use the wax for this project because I loved the finish of the paint on it's own.  Such a fan of the orange + green + blue combo!

You all know just how much I love pink, so without a doubt, I was excited to use Blushing Bombshell asap!  It's gorgeous and I may have plans to use it elsewhere in the house in the near future! ;)

You can see more photos of pieces painted with the colours from the collection here.

The beauty of chalk paint is that it allows you to easily distress your pieces with a little sanding.  The wax (a little goes a long way) gives your pieces the protection that they need.  However, I think that the most brilliant part is the minimal prep work that's required prior to painting and that the wait time between coats is only 20 mins!

Of course, what's a celebration without a giveaway?!  The FAT Paint Company wants to give one lucky reader the entire #AFxFAT paint collection in pints and a 200g jar of FAT Wax.  But wait!  That's not it!  The winner will also win a room make-over consultation with Amanda herself!  I know!  To enter, follow the steps below.  The giveaway is open to residents in Canada and the US and closes Feb 3/16 at 11:59pm EST.  Good luck!

Cheers,

#IndigoBookClub - Tiny Beautiful Things

Monday, January 25, 2016

The #IndigoBookClub continues to go strong and this month's read has me completely intrigued!  Tiny Beautiful Things is a compilation of the best and never-before-published articles from the advice column Dear Sugar.

It wasn't until recently that the anonymous author of the popular column, found on The Rumpus, was revealed to be none other than Cheryl Strayed, the author of the bestseller Wild.

Intrigued, aren't you?

I'm not quite sure what to expect, but I'm certainly looking forward to giving this book a read based on knowing how talented Cheryl Strayed is!

As always, there will be a twitter party, hosted by Indigo to chat about the book.  The best part, Cheryl Strayed herself will be taking part!  Feel free to join in on the fun!  The twitter party is on February 5th at 7pm EST.  Look for the hashtag #IndigoBookClub!

PS. Did you notice the faux fur throw in the photos above?  I couldn't believe my luck when I found it on the clearance table at our local Chapters store!  If you haven't seen these throws in person yet, we think that they are amazing!  So unbelievably soft and perfect for wrapping yourself up in while watching your favourite show or reading.  This one skips between the couch and bench by the window in the living room.

Have a wonderful week and be sure to let me know if you've read/plan on reading Tiny Beautiful Things!

Cheers,

**Indigo kindly provided me with the book to read, however, all opinions are my own.**

Decorating With Collections

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

I've always loved milk glass and brass candlesticks, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that it hit me that instead of scattering them around the house, that I needed to start grouping them together.  Because in the end, groupings of similar items can make quite the statement!  But to do this, I did need to add a few more pieces to both collections.

I visited our local thrift store about three-four times last week and sure enough, they seemed to have more of what I was looking for with each visit.  So far, so good!  The milk glass pairs so well with white dishes, so they help to fill in the gaps.

I'm happy with how these two collections are beginning to take shape.  The simplicity of styling is also something that is appealing, can't lie there!

I've also been working on editing items around the house.  Though I am adding a few vintage and thrifted finds, I feel as though they are more in line with what I love vs what we had before.

I'm also so thrilled with these canisters that came from my IL's house (I promised I asked before taking them! lol).  Aren't they gorgeous?!

I wonder what will be collecting next....maybe white dishes for a plate wall???

Cheers,

Winter Getaways

Friday, January 15, 2016

bridgewater weekend bag (c/o) // boots // jeans // vest (similar) // jacket (old from Old Navy) // sweater (Gap)

I love family weekend getaways during the winter months.  They typically involve days full of skiing or snowboarding, hiking through mounds of snow and are finished off by the fire with delicious cups of hot chocolate.  I just love them, and hope that we can sneak away for a weekend (or two) in the coming weeks.

Have you heard the Strumbellas' latest release?  I'm loving it!

Have a fantastic weekend, friends!

At Home: Sarah Style

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

As a long time fan of Sarah Richardson's, you better believe that her latest book, At Home: Sarah Style was on my Christmas list!  I promised that I wouldn't open it until Christmas day, but I'm pretty sure that my husband knew full well that I wouldn't be able keep that promise!  Sure enough, a few days before Christmas, I was diving right in, ready to be soak up all of the beauty that the pages held!

The book is absolutely stunning and inspiring from front to cover.  It's filled with gorgeous photos (taken by Stacey Brandford and there are even photos that have never been seen before!) and text.  The tours include an array of homes in a variety of locations.   From urban settings, to dreamy cottage country, to peaceful farmland.

The beautiful home tours are followed by forty-five delicious recipes for every season!  The recipes include light salads, yummy breakfast ideas, baked goods and even turkey dinner!

At Home: Sarah Style, is a lovely read.  If you haven't taken time to flip through the pages, I highly recommend that you do.  I've gotta say that it's also makes a beautiful addition to any coffee table!

In other exciting news, Sarah recently launched a new bedding collection, as well as amazing table linens and accent pillows!  You can find it all here.

Have a great day, friends!

Real Life Snow Globe

Tuesday, January 12, 2016

You guys!  We woke up to the most beautiful winter wonderland this morning!  The snow continues to fall ever so gracefully, I'm absolutely captivated!  Shovelling was even fun (gasp, I know!) since the snow was nice and light and it's not tooooo chilly out.

I recently picked up this comfy scarf from Gap (currently on sale!).  It's super long which allows you to wrap yourself up in it.  It's also a great way to add a beautiful hit of colour to your outfit!

I've got a pot of chili simmering on the stovetop because I have a feeling that the kids will be heading outside to play the minute they get home from school!

Happy Tuesday!

Cheers,
