Decorating the Entry for the Holidays!

Monday, November 27, 2017

As we begin to gear up for the holidays, one space of our home that I'm paying a little extra attention to this year is the entry.  The entry is typically one of the smallest spaces in one's home and for that reason, it's often overlooked when it comes to decorating.

But if you consider the fact that it's the very first space that your family and friends see when they enter your home, I thought this year, I'd go big, because the entry plays a very important role on setting the tone for your home!  I want to ensure that our guests can't help but to be in the festive spirit from the moment they step foot in our home!

It all starts with what's right outside your door.  A holiday doormat layered on top of a sisal look rug creates a festive welcome.  A faux potted tree with lights (bonus! It comes with a timer!) adds ambiance and texture to the front step and a wreath hanging from the door finishes off the look.

A festive throw pillow on the chair just beyond the door, creates an inviting place for people to sit while putting on, or taking off their shoes.  I picked up an inexpensive wooden crate, which I painted to fit in with the entryway's colour scheme.  It's a great spot to store scarves, mittens and toques which your guests to help themselves to when you're getting set to go outside for a midday or after dinner walk.

Fresh greenery and holiday must have birch branches aren't just for outdoors!  They fill the entry with their delicious scent and add great colour to the space.  (Note: fresh greens will dry out when indoors.  You can help this from happening too quickly by spritzing them with water daily, or placing them in vases of water to prolong freshness)

I love the idea of having a mini tree right inside the door as well as other decorative elements that have mini-lights.  There's nothing better than these twinkling lights throughout the home once the sun goes down.

I paid close attention the colours that I chose for the entry, ensuring that they coordinated with the decor in the dining room since these two spaces are so close together.  Pinks, greens and whites were the perfect colours for this year's holiday season!

The dresser that is just beyond the entry also received a touch of the holidays!  Ornaments, a shaved wood tree and a battery operated "Noel" sign made of pinecones and greenery sit neatly on the top of the dresser.

Do you typically decorate your entryway for the holidays?  What is your go-to colour palette for this year?

Cheers,

Home Depot was kind enough to sponsor this post, all opinions are my own.

Week in Review

Friday, November 17, 2017

This has been a super busy week and next week will be just as busy!  I'm not complaining, but if you see me and I look as though I have a million and one things on my mind, it's because I do! ha!

I'm crazy excited to be finalizing the details of a project that I've been wanting to tackle for quite some time now.  It's going to be SO good you guys, so good!

these shoes are everything and more!

Incase you missed it, I posted some of my favourite pieces from Talbot's holiday collection.  You can find the post here.  I also mentioned a fun contest that they are holding.  They're asking you to share your favourite holiday moment for a chance to win an exclusive Talbots gift box!  You can find more details about the contest here (sadly it's not open to residents of Canada).

I was walking through the store the other day and the cover of Magnolia's winter issue literally stopped me in my tracks!  I may have even gasped out loud.  Have you seen it?!  Joanna looks absolutely stunning and the location couldn't have been any more perfect!

Festive Cheer!

Morning!

A few weeks ago I had a chance to preview Talbot's Holiday Collection.  I immediately fell in love with nearly all of the pieces!  The perfectly curated collection has so many beautiful festive options!  Today I'm featuring a few of those favourites, seen above.

I think a plaid top should be a staple in everyone's closet during the holiday season!  It just screams festive cheer!  You know I love my denim and these leggings are honestly one of the comfiest pairs of jeans I've ever owned!  The waist sits a little higher and the length is absolutely perfect (I went with petite).  I love dressing jeans up and down.  A classic pair of heels (with the sweetest bow detail on the back) is the perfect way to do just that!  Speaking of heels, I've never slipped my feet into a more comfortable pair!

You truly can't ever go wrong with a grey wool coat - as it pretty much goes with everything, making it incredibly versatile in that it can easily be dressed up or down.  I can't tell you enough how thankful I am that there are petite sizes available.  The arm length of this coat is absolutely perfect, hitting right at my wrist, which I love love love!

I also wanted to share a fun campaign that Talbots is currently holding.  They asked me to share my favourite moment as part of their "Share The Moments" campaign!  I shared my one of my favourite holiday moments on Instagram, you can find the post here!

Before I go, here are a few more favourites from their holiday collection!  You can also view all of the new arrivals here!

Have a wonderful Tuesday, friends!

Cheers,

Talbots kindly provided me with the pieces worn in the post, all opinions are my own.
