It's Tree Time. Well, Almost.

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

When we first came to look at this house, I gasped the minute I saw the peaked ceiling in the living room and no word of a lie said "we can get a tall Christmas tree".  I've always dreamt of having a tall tree in front of a window at the front of the house. I don't know where the dream stems from, but I would have purchased this house for that reason alone!  Just so happens that we fell in love with the rest of the house too.  Bonus.

Anyhow, the furniture has been rearranged and though I'm not loving the new layout all that much, I'm sure my feelings will change the minute the tree is up, which will happen this week. Giddy up!

Christmas Holiday Decorating. Tablescapes, A Touch Of Sequins and Texture.

Monday, November 25, 2013

Good morning!

When it comes to the Christmas holidays, I start decorating early.  Yes, I'm one of those people.  Starting at the beginning of November, each time I go down to the basement, a decoration makes it's way back upstairs with me.  I can't resist.

The banister is fully decorated as is the console in the hallway.  The family room, living room and dining room are all works in progress.  I've decided that I'm kind of over most of our decorations, it's time for some new pieces, so I'm basically starting from scratch. I always thought that we had a slew of decorations but then as I was pulling them out of their bins this year I literally said "that's it".  Hmmm.  No bueno.

For the living & dining rooms, the plan is plaid and sequins.  Oh goodness, I'm excited about this one!

Okay, I am so so so bad with sharing sneak peeks, I just can't help myself!  So today, I will share a few sneak peeks and then that will be that until the full reveal.  I plan on once again sharing our tablescape, so look for that post in the coming weeks.

It's all a work in progress so things may not look just like this for the reveal, just so ya know!

Living and dining rooms:

With the living & dining rooms being all about glitz and glam, I've chosen to tone it down, way down for the family room.  The fireplace is in there and we do use the room as a true family room.  Tv shows & movies are watched while cuddling under cozy blankets and I love that! So for this room, it will be all about texture, neutral tones and comfy cozy.  I haven't gotten too far with this room yet as I've been focusing on the living & dining rooms.

This poor little guy has some rust marks....but no worries, nothing that a little dab of paint can't fix!

There you have it! The holidays have officially arrived here and I wouldn't change a thing!

How about you? Have you started too?

Cheers,

New Workspace Reveal!

Monday, November 18, 2013

Last week, I shared the master bedroom makeover.  This week, it's time for my workspace makeover reveal!  I have to admit, having finished both projects in the same week sure did lift a weight that I didn't even realize was on my shoulders, off.  I honestly slept like a baby the night after the workspace was done!

So, the workspace was originally supposed to be a reading nook and I absolutely love that idea, a space for the kids or hubs and I to get away and cozy up with a book or magazine.  I really didn't want to take that space away, so I made sure that I designed the space to incorporate both my work area and a place for someone to read.

You guys, I'm super happy with how it all turned out.  This little nook is honestly a gem.  The window lets in just enough light and it's the perfect size for everything that we need.

Here you go! (ps I'm still having issues with blogger darkening my photos, so I'm sorry if they appear a tad too dark, ugh).

love the vintage green glass cookie jar that my MIL gave me!

why yes, that is the tote that Sarah Richardson gave us when we visited her office!

do you spy the orchid in a ceramic platter??

The two vintage chairs used to be hubs Grandparents and were covered in a not so lovely yellow (dirty yellow) velvet. I bought the dotted fabric from Tonic Living and reupholstered the chairs myself.  It probably wasn't the funnest project I've done, but I'm happy with the results and it save quite a bit of money.  The chairs are unbelievably comfortable, perfect for a day of blogging or an hour or two of reading.

The desk is from Ikea and again, I have to give Ikea a pat on the back for the great price and super fast & affordable shipping. So so happy with the service!  The desk is the perfect size.

I've had a few people ask about the side table.  Well, it was actually made by hubs Dad (so Grandma says) back in his high school days.  I gave it a fresh new look with some white and gold spray paint.

I had so much fun styling the desktop.  I moved my Justine Ma print from the family room to here and picked up the amazing gold & glass box from Homesense.  The elephant bookends were also a Homesense pick up, but they were originally black, so I spray painted them white so that they would fit right in.

So now you know where I work from!

Master Bedroom Makeover Reveal!

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Oh boy, it's finally time to share our master bedroom makeover.  I'm pretty darn excited as this is really the first time that I planned out a space from start to finish.  First though, let me say that my computer and I are NOT on good terms right now. I'm sorry, but it's gotten to the point that we may just have to break up.  It took me wayyy too long to get this post up and running. Ridiculously long and so I apologize if there are any glitches or things aren't lining up properly. And why is Blogger darkening my photos? Is this happening to anyone else?

Vent over, back to the reveal...

As much as I would have loved to have purchased a new headboard, the budget just isn't there right now, but I really wanted to update the space so I of course paint was the answer.  After a little nudge from Alexandra Kaehler, I decided to go with blue and you know what, I'm SO glad that I went for it.  Though the blue ended up being a touch lighter than I was picturing, I'm loving it all the same.

For the fabrics, I wanted something fun and that had personality.  I went with two great fabrics Spoonflower  (thanks again C for the feedback).  I'm super impressed, though next time I choose a thicker fabric.  I love how the print on the purple fabric balances out the playfulness of the dotted one.  For texture, I went with a gorgeous grey sequinned pillow that I found at Homesense, it finishes off the look perfectly.

Because I wanted the headboard & pillows to be the focal point, I decided to go with a subtle piece of art above the bed.  Honestly, how perfect is this print by Clare Elsaesser.  I'm so smitten with it.  It's truly gorgeous in person.

The bedside tables were the first thing in the room to get a new look.  A touch of white spray paint and some gold metallic for the hardware and they fit right in, they were originally the same colour as the headboard.  A beautiful watercolour by Sarah Swanson & a vintage crystal cigarette tray (not being used for cigarettes) finishes off my side perfectly.  For hubs side, I picked up a wooden plate from Homesense and made some simple artwork myself. I also bought a large piece of mating and cut it down to size to frame this piece and the art above the bed as well.

My Ashley Cooper print was given a touch of colour with a new mat and I once again, spray painted a frame that we already had white.

Here's the before:

And here's the after:

Now, I'm sure you're wondering "what about the rest of the room". Ah yes, there is more, but that my friends will have to wait for another post!

Hope you liked it!

Cheers,
