One Room Challenge! Week 1 - Kid's Bedroom Makeover - The Plan

Hi everyone!

If you're new here, thanks so very much for taking the time to stop by to read all about my plans for my first ever (!!!) One Room Challenge!

I am crazy excited to be participating in the ORC as a linking participant for the first time after following along for the past couple of seasons and thankful to have HomeSense as the sponsor!  Thank you, HomeSense for helping me take this space to the next level!  I'm not quite sure what I've gotten myself into lol, but I'm ready to give it a go!

For this challenge, I'll be to tackling our youngest son's room.  Little J's current bedroom situation is less than glamorous, I'm looking forward to creating a space that truly reflects his energetic and happy personality!

Here's a peek at what I have planned for the space:

My jumping off point was the headboard.  I'll be painting an older headboard green (colour above) and from there, we'll be incorporating doses of colours that are little J's favourites.

I'm pretty excited about the bedskirt fabric, it's whimsical and fun and coordinates perfectly with the room's colour scheme and his existing duvet colour (pictured above).

Now this is the before:

It's a smaller room, so I'll definitely be focusing on selecting pieces that are the proper size because we certainly need to maximize the space.  We want dedicated zones for reading, drawing, playing and such.  Our little J is the keeper of all things unnecessary lol, so clever storage is going to be huge as will a good purge!

I can't tell you how excited I am to ditch the bunk beds.  I get bunk beds, they are practical and I appreciate that, but I just can't.  I can't.  They will be the first pieces that I'll be waving goodbye to.

Here's the to do list:

• paint headboard
• purge room (so.much.clutter and so unnecessary!)
• make bedskirt
• paint vintage dresser (not shown)
• find desk
• frame DIY
• hang gallery wall
• hang hooks for clothing
• find some type of book organization
• place for J to hang his art
• make frame for world print
• new lighting

Phew, I think that's it!  At least for now, ha!  I know that things will pop up and we'll find that not everything that we've planned will work, but we're ready!
